METALSMITHING PROCESSES

There are lots of techniques in metalsmithing.  The most basic ones are sawing, filing and sanding, soldering, hammering, forming, texturing, stone-setting and the list goes on.  I use all of these and some other ones when I make a piece.  I really do love all of the processes involved in taking a piece of jewelry from beginning to the final product.

Sometimes in my classes while we are involved in a project, we will take photos of the steps involved.  Following  are some step by step photos of making a ring from a large concave disc and getting the band of the ring to fit properly so it will make a good solder joint.
